It's time to start thinking strategically when it comes to your social media.

SEO, in the traditional sense means "search engine optimization." Fancy, right? To break it down: it's the practice of using keywords to rank higher on search engines like Google...or if you're a social media nerd like me: to rank higher on social media platforms as well.
That's right: Just like Google, you can implement the same basic keyword principles to your Instagram account.
How you ask? There are a few really great ways that won't cost you a dime:
1. Hashtags, y'all: You've probably heard me shout it from the rooftops already, but hashtags are one of the best, ORGANIC ways to amplify your voice on Instagram. They're a great way for users to search for specific content and for YOU, my friend, to reach people interested in you what you have to offer. If you end up ranking on a hashtag (that means your post lands in the top 9 of the grid when it is searched), your content will be one of the first posts viewers see, raising your reach exponentially.

2. Optimize your bio: Yep, that actually counts. Figure out your niche and think about why people might follow you. Then, pick out a few keywords and make sure they're in places that are SEARCHABLE on your bio. Searchable content includes: your username and your name/title on your bio. This is prime real estate. Try optimizing your title to reflect your service, adding a website button, contact details and making sure you have a link in your bio for your brand. The more relevant the info, the better.
3. Update your alt text: Alt text is always the forgotten friend; yet it can be a huge game-changer when it comes to ranking on the algorithm. Alt text gives Instagram more context when it comes to your content. It benefits you to use as many keywords as possible to describe your image or video.
